Freak-folk introduced a new generation on the well-known old guard such as Vashti Bunyan, Richard & Linda Thompson, Mellow candle and, of course, Fairport Convention (name a few). Mumford sons eschew & beards and bellbottoms for well crafted songs, performed and recorded with an honesty that's a bit from this bygone Barden borrow something wonderful news to bring to the table. Of the Quartet-London handsome debut sigh No more was produced by Markus Dravs (Bjork, Arcade Fire, Brian Eno, Coldplay) and open harmoniously with its inspiring title track, sounding more parallel to fleet foxes than any of the above, although their penchant for charming rustic Americana instrumentation is filtered through a similar to that of the waterboys pub-home mentality. "The cave" pulses with bluegrass banjo and the kind of lyrical wit honed that can only come from a true Englishman, while drunk, brassy horns in "Winter Wind" warm cockles of the heart will drive as an age rye on a cold night. "Little Lion Man" is a folk opus that fathoms deeper than the resonance of their wooden instruments sounds.
by Rocky Glines I have been waiting forever for this album finally make it to America. The banjo boot stomping charged anthems have made it impossible to turn off this album. Excellent! by unknowndiva1 someone tipped me off about this band in the summer and I have since then snapped up everything i-tunes offered. I was so happy today to finally get their first LP downloaded. This band has quickly become a favorite of mine as their music to a familiar comfort but a unique perspective. Not afraid to use all kinds of instruments, Mumford and sons have a sound that are sorely lacking in a market saturated with about produced dance numbers, brooding EMO, and usually lackluster attempts to folk.Brilliant first effort and I look forward to many more albums of Mumford and sons and am really hope to catch them live. by Mumistheword this album, finally released in America, is an excellent release that includes a classic folk foundation, mixed with catchy hooks and challenging lyrics this album is a treasure.
