Apple Lang Syne

The end of one year and the beginning of more traditionally from the us do about the past, present and future. Perhaps it was, where Dickens got the idea to use the good graces of the spirits to the story a Christmas Carol. In any case, became the inspiration for today's post is from Dan Fogelberg song, 1981, the same old Lang Syne. The story of the song is the story of meeting a friend unexpectedly with food and their conversation together later. Regards the present and the past, and contains the bittersweet feelings of sadness, as he leaves.

The phrase "auld lang syne" is loosely translated as "old times". This means, in memory of the past few days. When I listened to in the song this year again, Fogelberg, it occurred to me that could be adapted to re-discovering that the old Apple II, in the basement or closet.

[Note: the audio track here is a karaoke MIDI series created to revealed.net in 1997 in the song, Fogelberg me sing these words. You have been warned.]

Apple Lang Syne
According To Steven Weyhrich

(a parody of the Dan Fogelberg song, "same old Lang Syne")

Was in the basement, where I stored my past
Search box Christmas day
Through the one containing the floppy disk
When I caught her on the sleeve

My trusty sat there beneath the Apple II
So neatly in the box and packed
I thought about all I had with you
And many of the games I played

(instrumental verse)

I pulled it out and stuck the wires
He opened the packed software
With its "beep" and then is turned on
But disk performance lagged

I started AppleWorks and VisiCalc
Ultima [] and [RobotWar]
With my old joystick I Hat Mack]
As I sat there on the floor

I coded in the [number]
I played some Serpentine]
I browse Softalk, and GS +
And other magazines

Yes, I bought a MacBook Pro
It helps me work and games and buy
I'd like to, that it was the simplicity
But I don't want to lie

I saw that the years he was a friend
My Apple II, I knew so well
He looked with fondness on his pale beige
And the missing letter "L"

I've seen the ads in all magazines
When this friend was at the top
All of the exciting things I was hoping to buy
But my mother stopped me

I played the game a Snack attack]
Lode Runner, Zork and Drol [],
Plus magic [] and [Sourceror],
A.E. [] and [] Apple Bowl

I tried [GraFORTH] and [DoubleStuff]
Some Castle Wolfenstein]
Guarantee we won't suffer anymore soon elegance
Another "auld lang syne" ...

The field is blank and his
He ran things play
Unplugged the monitor and floppy drive
Picked up and put down

I saw an ad for the Macintosh-soon
And he felt the old familiar pain ... []
And as I turned to the path to the top
Hear the echoes in my brain ...
