100 Million from RTM API: what is next?

After the sale of 90 million from RTM API from 2007 to 2010, the landmark base 10 almost certainly passed the sale 100 millionth iPhone. Expect self-congratulatory press release next month, but now is the time to think about the next 100 million from RTM API.

According to the NPD ( Fortunethrough), iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3 G held the first, second and 10 position among mobile phones in the United States in 2010. The remainder was Android devices. In accordance Gartnerwith Android as a platform had second place worldwide among smartphones in 2010 and will almost certainly pass Symbian first in 2011. Apple and Cisco iOS will be settled for third in 2011, passing the RIM by the BlackBerry OS. While the trend in the direction of Android dominance share will not be able to undo, the real concern is whether Apple is going to continue to aggressively compete on hardware anyway. The signals are mixed.

After annual releases new from RTM API Rozpuszczano now that free hardware WWDC means not iPhone 5 until the fall at the earliest. One argument for such a delay is LTE iPhone 5, but every month, if not weeks, choose the iPhone compared to just 4 and the previous year's iPhone 3GS from Apple are new smartphones, Android. Can anyone can imagine is only one model iPod? How about a single iPod in one color? Almost one year after the release of the iPhone 4, Apple is still promising (but not yet delivered) a white iPhone 4.

Another problem of the scarcity of iPhone choice, namely the carrier exclusive, closes still, still the negative impact of the iPhone in sales. In the United States, the iPhone is available on Verizon and AT&T, representing approximately two-thirds of mobile subscription. This is the equivalent of not selling the iPhone in all of South-Eastern UNITED STATES. It is even worse in the country, such as China, the priority for the future growth of Apple. IPhone is now available only through China Unicom, which represents around 20 percent of subscribers to wireless network. IPhone needs greater now worldwide presence and larger screened iPhone wouldn't hurt, or.

Looking at list of selling smartphones in the United States, two of them also have a 4-inch displays: Droid X and G EVO 4. In accordance with the npd Groupdemand from consumers for Smartphone with large displays increased to 24 per cent of the market by the end of 2010, while growth in the demand for smartphones displays the size of the iPhone was flat. While rumors about the iPhone 5 with larger screen were inconsistent, the demand for such a device is clearly.

Another market where demand is in range, and $ 100 Android phones (No Contract required) is already here. However, the range of the market at least is recognized by Apple for its importance. With Forbes, at a meeting with analysts COO Tim Cook whether asserted the company was "not assignable any market", and that Apple does not want their products as "just for the rich." Is Trust raises, but as long as Apple launches iPhone prepaid for $ 200 or $ 300, is just talk.

Apple has had great success with the iPhone, but the current design limited the choice of carrier and limited options, limited price can take away from this success.  More models, more carriers and more points price: this is the way forward from RTM API for the second $ 100 million (or more).
